Aldersgate

    PAT SHULL

       Office Administrator

Home Town: I was born, raised and spent most of my adult life in the suburbs of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  My husband and I moved to Largo Florida in September 2017, 1 week before hurricane Irma hit this area.

Family info: Married to Dave for 42 wonderful years.  We have a son, Bill who is married to Lori and they gave us our granddaughter Sophia, 14.  We have 2 grandchildren from Lori’s previous marriage and they are Madison (25) who married Steven in December and Michael (21) who is in the Air Force and will marry Presley in October.

When did you join the staff of Aldersgate? I started working on staff here at Aldersgate on May 2, 2022 as office administrator but was a regular volunteer in the Sound Booth during the Contemporary service for about a year.

What did you do before joining Aldersgate? I am an RN and have spent most of my life in various settings working primarily with older adults. For 34 years I was Director of a non-profit that offered adult day services (adult day care) that provided care for mostly older adults with chronic and progressive illnesses and people after strokes, etc.  In the day centers I did nursing and administrative tasks. When we moved to Florida I went back to clinical nursing for 3 years.

What do you do for fun? I like finding new recipes and trying them out on family and friends.  I also like cooking old favorites and entertaining.  One favorite is the traditional Christmas cookie baking day with our son and granddaughter.  I like sewing when I have the time to be creative.

Favorite books? The Walk Series, The Broken Road series and others from Richard Paul Evans.  For lighter reading my favorite author is Nicholas Sparks.  Most recently my reading has been focused on the Bible and other related books.

Who has influenced you the most in ministry/life? My grandmother was the greatest influence in my life, both in early development of my faith and life in general.  My grandmother and I were very close through my entire life and still is even though she passed on nearly 30 years ago.  She was active in church, serving in many different volunteer roles.  She was strong in her faith and wanted to be sure I could attend church as a child.  We went to church together every Sunday until she died.

Most recently, Pastor Ben has been a significant influence in growing my faith and understanding the importance of not just believing in God but rejoicing and growing/strengthening my faith.  As I’ve become more involved in Aldersgate UMC, I am learning from others around me.
