A Note from Pastor David Gill
Dear Family of God calledAldersgateChurch,
This is harvest season and I love it! I can’t wait to visit and serve along with you in the Pumpkin Patch and participate in all our fall activities. The harvest is gathered in every fall and we give thanks for the food and supply. In the same way, God is growing a harvest of souls in our city and he is commissioning us to help gather them into his storehouse. One thing has to happen for there to be any kind of a harvest, whether on a farm or in the spirits of city dwellers: someone has to do some work. During the month of October I invite you to read and meditate on the New Testament letter of James. This short book was written by the brother of our Lord Jesus to strengthen the workers in the Lord’s harvest. For this father of the church the bottom line was simply, “faith WORKING through love” as Paul put it in his writings (Galatians 5:5). What does the Lord expect of us? Read James and we may discover new ways God is calling us to serve Him together:
Oct. 2nd Holy Communion, World Wide…priority: prayer
James 1 “ask in faith”
Oct. 9th Sermon: “you shall love your neighbor as yourself”
James 2-James’s Central Concern: Faith That Works
Oct 16th “On a mission from God: Making Peace”
James 3 – Controlling What We Say
Oct. 23rd Commitment Sunday “God Gives Grace to….”
James 4 – Draw Near to God and He will Draw Near to You
Oct 30 “Bringing Back Each Other to the Truth”
James 5-Areas for Contemporary Application
Our PRIORITY NUMBER ONE IS PRAYER. Please be in prayer this month for each of our member’s faithfulness to the Lord’s direction. Please drop by the sanctuary anytime from 6:00a.m. til 10:00 p.m. to ask God to give us the wisdom that will bring peace and salvation to many people in our community this fall. Also write down the names of these for whom you will continue to pray for every day in October. Pin your prayer requests to the cross in the Narthex.
In His love,
Pastor David
