New Groups starting January 15…
The Case for Christ Study
Co-ed Group on Wednesdays starting January 17 from 6:45pm-8pm in the Family Life Center, room L4. This group will start out with a dvd study based on the book, The Case for Christ by Lee Strobel. This group is excellent for those looking to get started in a small group, are a new believer, or are simply looking for some answers. In your search for truth about Jesus you may very well find your faith strengthened and your life transformed! For more information, please contact Samantha Keller at There is a book and a study guide that accompanies this study that you will find helpful. You may purchase a study guide &/or book on your own, or through us ($7/$6 respectively).  Childcare is provided.
Online Small Group through Upper Room ELearning. We’re excited to offer this small group for those whose schedules might not permit them to be a part of one of our other groups. Through this online learning you will be supported daily in your spiritual growth, be able to post your questions and discuss the study all online with others from Aldersgate. This group will begin the week of January 15 and will run for about 7 weeks. Contact the group moderator, Anne Anderson, at for more information.  This will be a closed group, and space is limited, so sign up early.
We will be working through a course called “God Unbound: Wisdom from Galatians for the Anxious Church” by Elaine Heath, Dean of the Divinity School and Professor of Missional and Pastoral Theology at Duke University and also an ordained elder in the United Methodist Church.
The course consists of nine sessions — a welcome, seven lessons, and an epilogue — that can be spread over 4-7 weeks or longer, if needed. Each session consists of a 3-6 minute video of Elaine Heath speaking, a short reading, questions for reflection, and notes. Participants can record their thoughts and questions in a comments section, and participants can respond to others’ comments and questions.
Upper Room will create an online group that is only for people who sign up through Aldersgate. In this way, it will be like an in-person small group study and comments and questions will stay within the group. A moderator (Anne Anderson / will help guide the conversation and can help with technology issues.
Once you enroll through Aldersgate, you will receive an email with log in information. After that, you will receive periodic email reminders with a link to the course, but each person works at his/her own pace. People can start at any time and can finish at any time — although we have not yet decided how long the moderator will continue to actively monitor the site.
Learn more about the content of the course by visiting the Upper Room’s bookstore site for Heath’s book: “God Unbound: Wisdom from Galatians for the Anxious Church”. However, please note: The print book is NOT required to participate and is NOT included in the course fee
To enroll, please place $19 cash or a check for $19 payable to Aldersgate UMC in an envelope. Include a note with your name, telephone number, email address, and a message that it is for the Online Galatians Study. Drop the envelope in the offering plate or bring it to the church office. To pay by credit or debit card, please contact the church office.
